Hot Lap tire treatments can be used to reduce lap times anywhere from 3-5 tenths of a second and can actually increase tire life anywhere from 40-50%, which in the long run will save you, the racer, money on tires. When applied, it opens the pores of the rubber on the "foot print" of each tire which allows the race car to have a tremendous amount of additional side bite and forward bite. It also allows the tire to run 18-22° cooler on dirt and 26-28° on asphalt.
To get the best performance out of the tire treatment you must clean your tires. Do this with a rag, not a wire brush or grinding disc. This gently removes the outer layer and opens the pores of the tire, which in the end will allow the tire to absorb the treatment more efficiently. You can use any tire cleaner but it is recommended to use Pro-Blend tire cleaner (7050). After the tires are cleaned it is time to apply the tire treatment. Apply three coats of Hot Lap using a paint roller, allowing half an hour in between each coat. The second day three more coats need to be applied the same way. Then the third day, two more coats need to be applied. Do not bag or wrap the tires. They need to be kept dry and allowed to breathe. Keep in mind that the tire treatments need to be finished two days before race day. If the race is on Friday begin on Monday. If you are not able to start the treatments on time you can always change the regimen. For instance, if you were unable to start Monday, apply four treatments on Tuesday and four on Wednesday. If you would like to gain an extra 1/10 of a second for the first two laps, wipe a coat of tire cleaner on the tires 10 minutes before going out on the track. This will make the tires fire off instantly. If you did not have a chance to prep your tires for the race you can always use the tire cleaner before each session to still get that extra edge on the other drivers.
When Hot Lap is properly used, meaning using the tire cleaner, not over-treating and allowing 2 days of drying time before race day, it is undetectable. After the last application the Hot Lap goes deep into the tire and "goes to sleep". It does not lie around on the top of the footprint and create a gumball effect like most tire treatments. When the racer hits the track and the tires recognize the first heat cycle the Hot Lap wakes up and begins to rise to the surface. When it makes it to the footprint of the tire it dramatically opens the pores of the rubber and this is what gives the tire the huge side and forward bite. The moment the driver lifts and gives the tires a break the Hot Lap stops coming up to the surface of the tire and the pores close back up.
Hot Lap will work on all types and brands of tires; slicked, grooved, treaded, asphalt, dirt, off-road, go-karts, motorcycles, it doesn't matter. It can be used on new, used or recaps and if used correctly can restore last year's tires. Different Hot Lap products can be combined to make your tires fire off even faster or for longer periods of time.
